Yes. Sage Infusion can utilize a patient’s existing IV port to administer its therapies.
An IV port is a device that is implanted under a patient’s skin for the administration of IV therapies. Ports can simplify the IV process by eliminating the need for a new IV placement and stick for every infusion. IV ports are often used when a patient will be receiving IV therapy for an extended period of time.
Many of our medications, since they are immunosuppressants, need to be held while on antibiotics. Not all of them though. We want to keep your treatment on schedule as best as possible. Please call and ask to speak to a nurse if you are currently on an antibiotic.
If you have recently been vaccinated with a non-live vaccine, it is best to wait 2-3 days before your infusion in case you have a reaction or any side effects. Examples are influenza and shingles. Most live vaccines should be held while patients are on therapy, it is always best to check with your ordering provider.
Some of the medications we give at Sage Infusion, such as Prolia and Evenity, have a very rare side effect of osteonecrosis of the jaw. It’s best to make sure your dentist is aware that you are taking these medications. Additionally, keeping up with regular dental cleanings are important, but if you have to have any additional procedures, such as a root canal or extraction, be sure to contact us ahead of your appointment so we can discuss further.
You do not have to fast prior to your treatment. We recommend all patients arrive well-hydrated and enjoy a well-balanced meal prior to your treatment.
Unfortunately, we cannot leave your IV in for days at a time due to infection control reasons.
As with any medication, there is a potential risk of reaction. We closely monitor all patients for any signs of reaction during the infusion, as well as during the required post-infusion monitoring period. Our clinicians have the required training to address emergencies. You will be educated on the typical post-infusion signs and symptoms so that you know how to alert your clinical team if you experience anything outside of that. With mild to moderate side effects post-infusion, you can reach out to a member of our team and we can help assess the situation. If an emergency or severe reaction occurs after you’ve left the clinic, we recommend that you call 911 immediately.
