Ilaris
ILARIS® (canakinumab) is an interleukin-1β blocker indicated for the symptomatic treatment of adult patients with gout flares in whom nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and colchicine are contraindicated, are not tolerated, or do not provide an adequate response, and in whom repeated courses of corticosteroids are not appropriate.
Administration Information
It is given as a subcutaneous injection by a healthcare professional. For adult patients, the recommended dose is 150 mg as a single dose at the time of a gout flare. If re-treatment is required there should be an interval of at least 12 weeks before a new dose of ILARIS is administered.
Potential Side Effects
The most common side effects of ILARIS when used for the treatment of gout flares include: cold symptoms, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, increased levels of triglycerides in blood, and back pain. Nasopharyngitis, Rhinitis, Gastroenteritis, and Pharyngitis can also occur. For a full list of potential side effects, please see the Important Safety Information on the Ilaris website
