Thyrogen
Thyrogen is a type of medication called recombinant human thyroid stimulating hormone (rhTSH) and allows you to continue taking your thyroid hormone medication and helps avoid some of the signs and symptoms of acute hypothyroidism. Thyrogen (thyrotropin alfa) is used to help identify thyroid disease by testing the blood for a hormone called thyroglobulin in the follow up of patients with a certain type of thyroid cancer known as well differentiated thyroid cancer. It is used with or without a radiology test using a form of iodine.
Administration Information
Thyrogen is given as 2 separate Intramuscular injections 24 hours apart.
Potential Side Effects
The most common side effects with Thyrogen injections were:
- Nausea
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Lack of strength and/or energy
Patients treated with Thyrogen have also reported flu-like symptoms and allergic reactions (hypersensitivity).
