Aranesp
ARANESP®: (darbepoetin alfa) injection is used for pediatric and adult patients to treat anemia (low red blood cell count) caused by chronic kidney disease (CKD) or chemotherapy.
People with anemia have a low number of red blood cells (RBCs). Aranesp injection works like the human hormone called erythropoietin to help your body produce more RBCs to help reduce or avoid the need for blood transfusions.
Administration Information
Dosage & Frequency:
● For CKD patients on dialysis intravenously or subcutaneously once a week or every 2 weeks depending on dosage
● For CKD patients not on dialysis intravenously or subcutaneously every 4 weeks
● For cancer patients on chemotherapy subcutaneously once a week or every 3 weeks as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Observe patients for 30 mins
Potential Side Effects
Common side effects of Aranesp® include:
- Shortness of breath
- Cough
- Low blood pressure during dialysis
- Abdominal pain
- Edema (swelling) of the arms or legs
