Tom’s Story – Keeping A Lookout for the Perfect Voyage
Today you can find Tom and his wife boating (they live on Lake Griffin, part of the Harris chain of lakes in Central Florida) or exploring other interesting places in Florida.
But back in 2019 Tom was dealing with health issues that led him to need open heart surgery. Fortunately, Tom had a team of doctors monitoring him, and one physician asked how long he had been dealing with a thyroid problem. Tom was confused. He was unaware and asked why the doctor would mention that. The doctor pointed out that his “eyes” showed signs of Thyroid Eye Disease (TED).
Thyroid Eye Disease is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the eye muscles, eyelids, tear glands, and fatty tissue behind the eye. This inflammation can cause a number of different symptoms like red eyes, dry eyes, bulging eyes, itchy eyes, and double vision.
After heart surgery, Tom met with his doctors and his ophthalmologist recommended Tepezza* infusions to help manage his TED. Tom also suffers from dry eye disease and double vision. Tepezza is a prescription intravenous infusion given every three weeks for a total of eight treatments. Tepezza reduces eye bulging and double vision. It also improves the signs and symptoms of TED including eye pain, redness, and swelling.
Tom is on his second course of Tepezza treatments and is happy he found Sage Infusion. When he did his first round of treatments he received them at the hospital. He was given a choice between the hospital or a stand-alone clinic but was unaware of what the other infusion clinics had to offer. At his hospital site he found himself always waiting for his appointments and received no personal attention.
When his doctor said he had to receive infusion treatments again, independent clinics like Sage Infusion were brought to his attention and he figured he would try it.
“Infusions are not pleasant but the staff at Sage Infusion is WONDERFUL,” explained Tom. “The whole infusion experience has been wonderful. The space is clean, the people are nice, they offer you snacks and the price is right.”
Tom further added that when he received his treatments at the hospital he had to pay extremely high out-of-pocket,but Sage Infusion handled all the administrative and financial complexities by working with his insurance and the Amgen rare disease patient assistance program to ensure he did not have to pay anything out-of-pocket for his treatment.
“Infusion treatments with a needle stuck in your arm are nothing you look forward to but coming to Sage Infusion where they take time to talk to you makes it better.”
Tom received his last treatment and hopes for calm waters ahead. He feels like his symptoms are under control with less swelling and redness of his eyes. His doctors can now focus on treating his other conditions. However, if he needs to have infusion treatments again he will not hesitate to choose Sage Infusion and definitely would recommend it to his friends and family.
