Overview

Retiring in sunny Florida was Sharon's dream come true. However, shortly after settling in, Sharon began experiencing brain fog and noticed she was slower to respond verbally. This was alarming for someone so used to being sharp and in control. After a series of tests with her neurologist and a PET scan she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Sharon’s Story – Tuning in Every Day

Meet Sharon, a vibrant and inspiring woman who’s about to celebrate her 71st birthday. Sharon’s journey with Sage Infusion started almost two years ago when her neurologist referred her for treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.

Sharon dedicated her entire career up north to managing six radio stations and handling all the finances and staff. She dreamed of retiring in sunny Florida, and in 2019, she made that dream come true. However, shortly after settling into her new life, Sharon began experiencing brain fog and noticed she was slower to respond verbally. This was alarming for someone so used to being sharp and in control.

Without any family history of Alzheimer’s, Sharon was taken aback by these symptoms. Her fears intensified as she recalled a friend who ended up in an assisted living facility just three years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was scared she might have to give up her newfound life and dream in Florida.

Sharon underwent a series of tests with her neurologist and had a PET scan in 2023. The diagnosis confirmed Alzheimer’s, and she began receiving Leqembi at Sage Infusion. She also receives Prolia for osteoporosis. Sharon feels these treatments have been life-saving.

Leqembi (lecanemab) is a prescription medication used to treat early Alzheimer’s disease, including mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia. It works by targeting and reducing amyloid beta plaques in the brain, which are thought to contribute to the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Clinical trials have shown that Leqembi can slow the decline in memory, thinking, and behavior. While it doesn’t cure Alzheimer’s, it helps manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients. Leqembi is administered as an IV Infusion every two weeks by a healthcare provider.

Prolia (denosumab) is a prescription medication used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men at high risk for fractures. It works by inhibiting the formation and function of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue, thereby increasing bone mass and strength. Prolia is administered as a subcutaneous injection every six months by a healthcare provider.

Despite her diagnosis, Sharon’s life remains full and active. She still drives, participates in water aerobics, plays bocce ball and shuffleboard, walks daily, and serves as the secretary treasurer on her HOA board. She even works at a race track for fun!

Sharon praises Sage Infusion for their exceptional care, stating that the staff is “so caring” and that they aren’t just her medical team, but her friends. She’s thrilled to continue living her life to the fullest, without having to give up anything.

Sharon’s story is a testament to the power of quality care and treatment in preserving one’s quality of life. Her positive outlook and active lifestyle are an inspiration to us all.
