Tepezza & Hearing Treatment Tips
TIPS FOR PATIENTS TAKING TEPEZZA (TEPROTUMUMAB)
TEPEZZA (teprotumumab-trbw) is an infusion therapy used to treat moderate-to-severe active Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). It works by targeting a specific receptor involved in the inflammatory process that causes many of the symptoms associated with TED. TEPEZZA is administered through an intravenous (IV) infusion in settings like Sage Infusion. The complete treatment course consists of 8 infusions given approximately every 3 weeks, for a total treatment duration of about 5 months. Infusion times may vary, but your care team will monitor you throughout treatment and answer any questions you may have.
What to Watch for:
Some patients receiving TEPEZZA have reported hearing-related side effects. While not everyone experiences these symptoms, it is important to be aware of potential changes and notify your healthcare team promptly if they occur.
Possible hearing-related symptoms include:
- Muffled hearing
- Decreased hearing ability
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- Ear fullness or pressure
Possible other side effects:
- Hyperglycemia
- Can trigger or worsen inflammatory bowel disease symptoms
- HTN
- Muscle pain
At Sage Infusion, you will receive a baseline hearing assessment in clinic via an Audiogram before treatment begins and additional evaluations during therapy according to your provider’s preference or if concerns arise.
What Symptom Relief Can You Expect?
Every patient’s experience with TEPEZZA is different. Some individuals notice improvements relatively early in treatment, while others may experience gradual changes over time. It is important to remember that results vary from person to person. The degree of improvement, the timing of symptom relief, and the specific symptoms that improve may differ among patients. Depending on the severity of the patient’s TED, some providers may order a 2nd course of Tepezza treatment.
Tips for Success During Treatment
